Writing from the stretch when the old map no longer fits.

Your old playbooks, belief systems, and life plans no longer match the life you are living. The familiar rules you once relied on to navigate your career, relationships, and identity have lost their mojo, throwing you off balance and forcing you to chart a completely new course.

A space exists between where you used to be and where you are going, and you feel vulnerable. Being in this place means creating, reflecting, or expressing yourself while actively riding the uncertainty.

This is the public workspace of a professional commenting on the shifting currents of corporate life, career pivots, and personal growth. The commentaries published here form the heartbeat of an evolving book: Whitewater Leadership.

I am a curious observer. For over two decades, that intellectual restlessness has taken me on a fascinating journey - from Investment Research at Morgan Stanley to Management Consulting at PwC, from driving CEO's strategic initiatives at HCL Tech, scaling Digital Engineering practice at Tech Mahindra and driving IoT business at Bosch to where I am today: helping global manufacturers thrive.

Along the way, I have fixed Clients' P&Ls and steered complex programs across India & Europe and spent time at the Oxford University exploring a fundamental question; why do some strategies survive contact with reality, while others don't.

I write about these shifts - on topics like manufacturing transformation, digital, make or buy choices. In a nutshell - how the world around us keeps getting reinvented.

I am an avid investor in technology companies, new age start ups and in incumbents that know they need to move. Skin in the game sharpens my worldview.

What is whitewater?

A whitewater moment is a sudden change that rewrites the status quo. Without leadership, the subject is sidelined. With it, the same moment becomes a chance for renewal.

The term is conceptual. It describes decision pressure - in a business, a profession, or a life - not a place on a map. The writing on this site keeps returning to that idea.

Three ways whitewater shows up

Market shifts, a technology that industrializes overnight, or a regulatory turn that makes last year's model expensive. The enterprise either repositions - or loses relevance.

Examples

Disruption of hotel industry

Hotel exterior at dusk
  • Introduced an asset-light model to scale quickly.
  • Standardized budget stays for mass appeal.
  • Emergence of asset-light budget hotels such as OYO

Disruption of movie rentals

Cinema seats facing a lit screen
  • Made streaming cheaper than renting.
  • Instant access, no discs or store trips.
  • Drove out giants like Blockbuster.

Disruption of still photography

Vintage camera on a dark surface
  • Made photography accessible to everyone.
  • Shifted users from prints to digital sharing.
  • Kodak's resistance to change led to decline.
